Scheduling a places message

Scheduling a places message is different than scheduling a push message. The message is triggered when a user enters or exits a specific geofence, so the message isn’t sent to the device but is rather displayed when the event is triggered. So your scheduling step is simply setting rules for when and where the message should display.

If a user in the qualifying audience doesn’t trigger a geofence while the message is active, they won’t receive the places message.

After you’ve chosen the geofence for your message, you’ll move onto the Scheduling step.

You'll have two options:

Frequency

Scheduling a frequency at which your audience sees the message allows you to limit the total number of messages your user receives—so that you’re not inundating them with messages. Even your power users don’t want to be notified every time they enter their favorite store.

If your message is recurring, we recommend setting a limit to the number of messages a user can receive in total.

You'll have two options:

Display only once per device

Once per device is pretty self-explanatory—the message will only display once on the device when the user qualifies to see it.

Display each time the device qualifies

When you display the message each time the user qualifies, the user will see the message whenever they take an action that triggers the message.

  1. Select Display each time the device qualifies.
  2. To limit the amount of times the message is shown on the device, select the total number of messages your user receives, the frequency at which they receive them, or both.

Tip: Users with SDK version less than 4.2 will only receive the message once.

Start and stop

You can also set a start and stop time for your message

  1. To select the start time, select an option from the Begin drop-down list:
    • To start the message at a specific time, select At a scheduled time and then select a date and time.

  2. To select the stop time, select an option from the End drop-down list:
    • (Recommended) To stop the message at a time to be decided later, select When manually stopped.
    • To stop the message at a specific time, select At a scheduled time and then select a date and time.
  3. Check the Summary to verify your selections.

When you are done, select Continue and Confirm.
